Desin Ranks

These are the ranks that can be given or earned within the Desin pack.

  • Soldiers, when off duty, help Scouts, Hunters and Wardens with their duties.

Lord/Lady --

  • The Lord and/or Lady, is/are the leaders of the entire pack. They will receive messages from special scouts, lead ranks, their baron and the cleric specifically. They do not go out of the pack territory unless it’s absolutely necessary to due to them being so crucial to the way the pack runs. They have special guards and only the cleric is allowed to be fully alone with both the Lord and Lady. The Lord and Lady are allowed to keep secrets and have meetings with each other, without the need of a warden or baron inside their den or cave.

  • The Lord and Lady are in charge of everything that goes on inside the pack. They send scouts out to look for weather signs, prey and predatory sightings, and if certain dangers start sprouting. They choose the barons, lead statuses and can start the noble lines. They announce the joining of wanderers, the switching of ranks, the joining of two mates, the birth/expectant of cubs and the apprenticeship of cubs that are old enough.

  • They have meetings with the Commander, Head Medic, Cleric, Baron, and the Reporting Scout they send to patrol the area for reports, to discuss what has been happening within each line of work. If needed, the Lord and/or Lady will accompany hunting parties, patrols, herb gathering, war lines or scout missions, however this is often not needed.

Baron --

  • Barons are essentially the Lord's and/or Lady's second in command and stands in their position when they cannot. They are in charge of every other rank, including Commanders, but don't normally go out of their way to give orders unless there is something wrong within the ranks or there is no Commander ranks. This aside, they often are the one to accompany announcements with the lord/lady and make sure plans, missions and jobs are distributed nicely within the pack by talking with the Head Medic, Cleric and Commander.

  • If the previous ones had offspring, once the chosen pup becomes an apprentice, they are taught their duties by the current baron along with their parents. They can and will help with duties around camp or outside of it if there aren't enough in the ranks. They will also take the throne as Lord/Lady if the previous Lord/Lady steps down or dies without offspring or if the Baron is chosen instead of the offspring.

Cleric --

  • The Cleric is in charge of all the priests. They also take care of expectant females, but do not help pups with powers unless there are very few priests. They help out other priests, sometimes with their apprentices, when talking with other wolves about dreams. The Cleric only leave the camp if absolutely necessary, normally with a warden or two as well. They will also help the lead ranks, Lord, Lady and Nobles with dreams that cause them concern. They do this personally instead of sending them to the other Priests, as they have more information on those wolves than most.

  • Priest --

    • Priests are special ranks that are not taken lightly. In order to become one you must take an oath to believe in the deities to guide you and abide by their rules. Priest cannot take mates or have pups of any kind, adopted or biological, as their work is very important. They help out by telling expectant females how many pups they are going to birth, helping pups discover their powers (if they have marks) and help to send spirits to the deities through a ceremony. Priest apprentices aren’t allowed to participate in rituals or finding of a pup’s power, but they can observe on the sidelines. They are mostly in charge of finding ritual items and making sure the spirit bulbs (albino flowers) are bloomed and alive.

    • Priests also help out with dreams. They mostly help with calming cubs down from nightmares but they also help others interpret dreams that they may be scared of. Most of these wolves were abandoned, have memory issues or just have some suppressed fears or memories that occur as dreams. They help to calm the wolf’s nerves and try to assure them that they are safe. They also have the wolf revisit them if the dream occurs again, if the dream changes or if they have any dreams linked to that dream.

    • Priests are given a wolf that has recently passed and place them before a Star’s Reach or the Celestial Falls, if the wolf was important enough (lord, lady, noble, baron or lead rank). They join the wolf’s family along with the body of the passed wolf. Once having placed the wolf at the base of the Star’s Reach or in the shallows of the Celestial Falls, a white flower is placed on their side, in the middle of lavender and other flowers that are used to mask the smell of death. They all send a prayer to send the wolf to the deities. Afterwards, the priest and the family, find a place to bury the body and place the white flower in the ground with them. The white flower’s actual colors bloom when the plant is finally grown and that is to mark that the wolf’s body has finally returned to the land.

Commander --

  • While most would think the Baron would be the commander or control the various more military ranks, the Commander is actually a separate wolf. Commanders are in charge of the Soldier's, Scout's, Warden's and Hunter's missions and requirements, making sure they do their job correctly. They often visit training sessions and are in charge of picking out potential special Wardens for those that need more protection. Sometimes there is more than one in a larger group however this is not always the case. Sometimes they help in the various ranks when there is a little amount compared to what is needed for a mission or job.

    • Soldier --

      • A soldier’s simple job is to be able to go into battle if needed, often fighting invaders or large predators if need be. Soldiers often travel with hunting parties to help if need be, and if the Lord, Lady or Nobles go out they also travel with them. Otherwise, unless specified to do so, they hang around the camp and talk with one another, also keeping their skills honed and ready when needed.

        • Sometimes, if there is more danger outside the camp, a small amount of soldiers will travel with hunting parties and scout groups to help if there is any dangers to show up.

    • Scout --

      • A scout’s job is SUPER DANGEROUS. There is no guarantee they will make it back from their job alive. At the very least, they could make it back with many injuries if they have to patrol for so long. A scout takes daily rounds around the territory, meaning they often get attacked by predators or even invader wolves. flying scouts have less of a chance of getting hurt due to their air tactics, however they have a more feared predator in the Harpies. More often than not, Scouts are out of camp for at least half a day cycle, and there are groups that take turns. There is one group of at least 5-6 scouts sent in the morning, normally sent at one time but if they cannot go at one time, they can move at different times. The second is a group of 6-7 scouts at night, mostly to prevent sneak attacks/ambushes around the camp. This can become more dangerous the later it is, especially depending on if there is any events going on or other such things.

        • Reporting Scout --

          • The reporting scout is a single scout that has been requested by the Lord/Lady to become their “scout of honor” if you will. This scout will check weather conditions, prey movement, plant growth and enemy movement daily to keep hunting parties and patrols in good shape and ready for certain conditions. They will also announce if any special events are happening, such as droughts (which will cause for more enemies and less prey to show up), large storms (normally long floods or blizzards), disease groups (any diseases happening from the disease category), and any pack celebrations coming up. Their commanders are the Lord/Lady themselves, and they don’t have to listen to the Baron unless directly told to by the Lord/Lady or nobles.

    • Pack Messenger --

      • The pack messenger sends information all throughout the camp, especially if there is the need for herbs, more food or anything else in stock. They also tell information to respective ranks if they had missed the morning announcement, if there are dangers or anything nearby in the territory, and to watch out for them.

        • Occasionally, the messenger is sent with 2 soldiers, wardens or scouts and a medic, to a pack or wanderer group, to discuss anything important like peace treaties, gifts and alliances. However this is rarely and only when something comes up to be dangerous.

    • Warden --

      • Wardens protect special places, wolves who are weaker, food supplies, entrances and other areas needing them. They keep their own guard up no matter what, making sure to not move from their own posts. They are notified by their commander if anything needs particular attention when guarding.

    • Hunter --

      • Hunters always go out in groups of 2-3, normally with the Commander leading them as well. Hunters are in charge of the food supply and how well fed the pack is. The more wolves there are in the pack, the more hunters are needed in a patrol group in order to catch the food needed. After each hunt, the hunters are allowed to take at most 2 small prey items before going out again later that evening. Hunting parties are taken twice a day, one night shift and one day shift. After hunting is done, they are each allowed one full day to relax and heal any wounds or get checked up for irritations.

Head Medic --

  • The Head Medic is in charge of distributing healer apprentices to other Medics, along with distributing specific jobs to each Medic daily if needed. However if the Medics are well trained, they will make sure to take notice when inventory of certain herbs is low. Head Medic is first and only to know when certain poisonous plants are nearby. They will let the other lead ranks know when dangerous plants are in bloom and ask that they warn wolves that are in patrols and groups going outside the camp.

  • Medic --

    • Medics are in charge of taking care of wolves who are injured, sick or expecting/nursing. Medics are also in charge of making sure healing supplies are stocked and ready for use. They also teach apprentices and give them orders or jobs to do to help them with their training, with patients or not. However, they are not to leave the territory and only leave the camp if absolutely necessary.

    • Medics also go with hunting and scout parties, depending on the recent dangers outside of the camp. They are in charge of taking injured wolves back or trying their best to heal a wolf if they are in immediate danger from wounds.

Others

  • Apprentice --

    • The apprentices all have certain mentors, usually with the job they were assigned or picked themselves. Each mentor teaches the basics of their jobs and then takes them out into the field to test them and their training, keeping them in safe distances if the job is normally dangerous. How well the mentor is, depends on their nature and passion for their job. Depending on the job and mentor, the Apprentice could take up to 2 full months (real life time) to become their respective rank. Of course, they have to interact daily with the mentor in order to gain the training they need.

    • This rank is often accompanied by their training rank, such as "Scout Apprentice".

  • Elder --

    • The elders are all past ranks, that have served their pack well and haven’t died from their jobs. They often have plenty of exciting stories for cubs to listen to and they can be entertained for hours. They sometimes even tell them to the nursing or expecting females that are stuck in the den! They usually need the most care from healers, due to them getting sick easier and having creaky bones. Some are a bit cranky about that but they don’t do much anyways other than lounge around or chat in camp.

    • However, a wolf can retire early from their rank if they have a crippling illness or injury. (Ask the owner of the lord/lady if your wolf can retire their rank early if they have either of these before making a decision)

  • Nursing and Expecting --

    • Both nursing and expecting females stay in the den and visit each day to the healer’s quarry for a note of how they’ve been feeling and/or how their cubs have been doing. They report if anything is wrong immediately and they will get the best care possible (aside from the Lord and Lady who always get immediate care). They do not have to do their assigned job until their cubs are apprentices, as the cubs need protecting and watching after to make sure they don’t get into trouble.

  • Pups --

    • The pups of the nursing females don’t do much. Most of the time, they just lay around next to their mother… nursing. The pups that are up are more fun! They often get to explore around camp, but never out of it. They will usually go pester the medics or wardens with questions most of the day. Or they might chase butterflies, who knows, they’re all wildcards.

  • Packmember --

    • This is a rank given to a non-retired, unranked member of the pack that simply resides within the territory and mostly wanders throughout the camp. They are allowed to participate in small tasks that may need their assistance, such as hunting or gathering herbs, though often just watch pups or laze around the camp.
